About this deal

Bass was likewise satisfying, with the throbbing, staccato lows of The Knife’s “Silent Shout” declarative without overwhelming, no matter how loud. And in every sound mode I tested, the blend always had a delectable layering that plunged me into the center of the material’s aural universe. Sure, Standard was a bit flatter and Cinema was a bit rounder, but it was never less than right.

To manage image retention and burn-in that OLEDs are more susceptible to than other types of displays, Pixel Shift moves the image after a certain amount of time to prevent image retention while Panel Refresh only needs to be used in instances where ‘ghost’ images need to be removed. Picture Quality

The fine balance between excitement and naturalism continues with the colours, which the A80J delivers with a perfect blend of vibrancy and subtlety. This TV delivers all of the vivid thrills you could hope for from Rogue One’s space battles, Mad Max: Fury Road’s flame-throwing car convoy and Blade Runner 2049’s neon-lit city, but you never feel as if any of the bright colours are overcooked, and picture elements that require a gentler touch, such as a character’s skin or leather coat, are reproduced with rare nuance. I watched a number of different types of video, from action movies to comedies to musicals, and had trouble detecting much of what Sony indicated I’d hear. When I closed my eyes, I was wrong at least as many times as I was correct about where the sound “should have” been coming from, and I’m not positive I heard anything that could be mistaken for full-room surround sound. At least the setup process, which the remote’s microphone measuring sounds produced by the TV to allow it to optimize its performance, is simple and takes mere seconds to complete. If you end up not liking what you hear from the TV, your best bet may be investing in one of the best soundbars.Because the effect of the settings varies depending how the TV is set up, choose settings that fit your circumstances and preferences. The A80J is just as adept at handling color. In The Rise of Skywalker, the festival on Pasaana looked rich and varied, with the rainbow of hues of its celebrants’ robes surging (but not too much) against the bland sand and brown mountains of that desert world. The mid-20th-century, palette-busting fantasia of the new Disney-Pixar film Luca really popped, in the aquamarine tidal waters and the lush above-waves Italian Riviera landscapes alike.

Fancy having the biggest, highest resolution TV possible? Then the MASTER Series Z9J 8K Full Array LED has you covered. Available in 75 and 85-inch models this top end telly is one of the first series to make the jump to razor sharp 8K resolution, making it a top choice for enthusiasts. We test every televisions we review thoroughly over an extended period of time. We use industry standard tests to compare features properly. We’ll always tell you what we find. We never, ever, accept money to review a product.Other than the traditional speaker terminals (which the A90J has and the A80J does not), the A80J has identical connections to the A90J, both in terms of positioning and specification. That means you get aerial, satellite (Freesat in the UK), ethernet and optical ports, plus three USBs and four HDMIs. That isn’t to say that we’re averse to recommending a premium product when it justifies its high price, and that’s why we were delighted to bestow the full five stars upon Sony’s 2021 flagship OLED when we reviewed it. Simply put, it was the best TV of that year.

Comparing the two (even though they’re different sizes) would indicate that the Sony A80J puts more of an emphasis on HDR highlights (smaller, brighter objects) while the C1 is a smidgen brighter when dealing with bigger bright objects. However, brightness is only just one element to consider where picture performance is concerned. Since posting, I have experimented with the TV's "Dolby Audio" sound mode for the internal speakers. Out of the box, it sounds tinny compared to "Cinema". Finally, for most content, the curiously named Custom mode provides the closest thing to a tightly calibrated picture out of the box. There’s a lot of potential confusion here for the everyday TV buyer, which is too bad, but the more adventurous will discover it doesn’t take much tweaking to reach a perfect picture. See colors that are natural and beautiful to the human eye. Cognitive Processor XR enables a unique display to access a wider palette and reproduce each color with the subtle differences seen in the real world. With extended hue and saturation, vivid shades, and realistic texture can be seen in the flowers. Even pale colors look realistic. We retested the TV with the PS5's variable refresh rate (VRR) feature and updated the PS5 Compatibilitysection of the review, as VRR is working properly.

What to do when there are lines in the screen, the screen is blurred, double images occur, or odd colors occur. The Sony A80J benefits from the company’s imaging expertise by combining the strengths of OLED with its new Cognitive Processor XR that’s designed to emulate how the human eye actually sees the real world. Those are some fairly lofty claims, but Sony knows a thing or two about picture quality and the new processor delivers the goods.
