About this deal

Whenever there is a disposition manifested in any of the members of this Church to question the right of the President of the whole Church to direct in all things, you see manifested evidences of apostasy—of a spirit which, if encouraged, will lead to a separation from the Church and to final destruction… Being never-mo in “Happy” Valley, I try to get along with a live-and-let live policy. It’s just not possible with the level of indoc among TBM’s. My kid came home from school a little distraught yesterday. I asked “hey kiddo, what’s the problem?” “Oh, the kids at school are teasing me.” “About what? What’d they say?” “This girl in my class said “Everybody who goes to church, raise your hand!” Lots of people did, except me and X and X. They laughed at us and then at recess they were running away from us and said “We’re Mormon and you’re NOT!” and “Don’t play with them, they don’t go to church!” I asked if the teacher was in the room when this happened and was told no, the girl did it after the teacher left for a minute. Well THANK YOU LDS CHURCH for convincing my parents that it would be better if I had died. Sounds like the true church of Jesus Christ to me.

Dieter Uchtdorf. General Conference, Oct, 2013. Come, Join with Us Not totally lost; hard to understand reasons; implies they have not come to themselves yet; just love them I haven’t heard from my best friend in months (bishops wife). She stopped calling. Her kids no longer call our kids. The other day our son and daughter stopped by to say hi, something they used to do ALL THE TIME. They wouldn’t even turn to say hi. A family room full of people and these jerks wouldn’t even turn to say hi. My sweet 17 year old daughter who has this sweet tender heart was SHUNNED. I know I will be angry when I get past being hurt. I hate that my kids are going through this. It just kills me. Here is the irony, we have never removed our names, been out for a few months and haven’t said a negative word to anyone. Conflicts between Church members can also lead to apostasy. Faultfinding can be another source of personal apostasy. When we look for faults in others or begin to think we could make better decisions than our leaders, we should remember the experience of Oliver Cowdery, the second elder of the Church…Be Thou an Example,” Thomas S. Monson, First Counselor in the First Presidency, General Conference, April 2005. are not honest or sincere Teachings of Presidents of the Church, Brigham Young Chapter 12: Preventing Personal Apostasy are deceived because of their pride When the Prophet had ended telling how he had been treated, Brother Behunin remarked: ‘If I should leave this Church I would not do as those men have done: I would go to some remote place where Mormonism had never been heard of, settle down, and no one would ever learn that I knew anything about it.’ But, behold, my beloved brethren, thus came the voice of the Son unto me, saying: After ye have repented of your sins, and witnessed unto the Father that ye are willing to keep my commandments, by the baptism of water, and have received the baptism of fire and of the Holy Ghost, and can speak with a new tongue, yea, even with the tongue of angels, and after this should deny me, it would have been better for you that ye had not known me. To even think about taking him on you'd have to be some kind of homicidal maniac who was fantastically good at fighting, like McAdder McAdder could fight the duel for me! My apologies, sir.

Avoiding Personal Apostasy Ensign, June 2009, By Elder Claudio D. Zivic may have left because a leader did not treat them well and they become offended Also because their hearts are corrupted, and the things which they are willing to bring upon others, and love to have others suffer, may come upon themselves to the very uttermost; Every spirit of man was innocent in the beginning; and God having redeemed man from the fall, men became again, in their infant state, innocent before God. Maintaining Hope and Keeping Your Marriage Strong If Your Spouse Leaves the Church (Digital Only: Young Adults)

In later chapters it will be seen that sometimes a defendant can be guilty of an offence without a guilty state of mind ( strict liability offence, for example), but in every case, the actus reus must be proved before a conviction can occur. Faith is a gift of God bestowed as a reward for personal righteousness. It is always given when righteousness is present, and the greater the measure of obedience to God’s laws the greater will be the endowment of faith.
