The lacing can be adjusted nicely to hold your foot in place, especially good for walking on rough and steep ground. There is a perfect amount of space in the toe box so that my toes were never squashed together as my feet swell on long distance walks. I didn’t have a single issue with my feet during the 2 weeks walking the Cape Wrath Trail. inov-8 first used Graphene in 2018 when launching GRAPHENE-GRIP™ rubber on the outsoles of its hiking, running and fitness shoes. Sales of its footwear featuring the tough-gripping wonder-rubber have surged globally over the last three years. Longer lasting: Laboratory tests show that even when the G-FLY foam is aged to mimic extensive use, it still delivers more energy return than some unaged foams. Testing shows it still performs strongly after 1,200km – double the industry standard. I asked inov-8 why not; the answer is that it saves weight and allows the boot to offer the same flexibility and breathability that is treasured by runners. There are no plans to release a waterproof version yet – although, as inov-8 point out, they have plenty of waterproof options (including Gore-Tex) elsewhere in their range.They have a well-cushioned midsole that provides a good amount of bounce; these boots propel me forward. The biggest test for me is always how badly my feet hurt after a long section of road walking on a multi-day hike, and these kept me going without being in too much pain. Prepare for endless adventures. I have been testing a UK8.5 boot in pink. The pink colour is inov-8’s choice for their women’s version of the boot. I am a bit irritated that there is a pink boot for women and a blue boot for men, but I guess that if you have a size UK8.5 foot like mine, you could always go for the blue boot. I am not keen on gender stereotyping and I think it would be would be better for inov-8 to sell boots in gender neutral colours. I occasionally use a mini-gaiter if I’m likely to be on particularly boggy or gritty ground. These stop the mud and grit getting in the top of the boots. The strap under the gaiter fitted nicely into the groove in the sole of the RocFly boots, meaning it’s protected from wear. I’ve not used full gaiters with the boots but they should fit ok. I agree with inov-8’s claim that the boots fit and feel like trail running shoes. I felt like I had a spring in my step when walking in the boots. I am not sure that the Graphene-infused G-FLY™ foam “supercharged” my feet, but certainly these are very comfortable boots with good cushioning. Having tested other inov-8 products that include graphene I can report that they are long-lasting and durable. The chances are the sole will far outlive the upper but this is fine because, in many cases, the soles of shoes and boots made by other brands wear out before the uppers.
