About this deal

Charging while riding: When the consumption of the motor will be lower than 2A (downhill, no assistance or over 25km/h, all the energy doesn’t consumed by the motor will charge the main battery (by this way we compensate the extra consumption during uphill) That sounds like a pretty awful setup, I presume if you were actually pushing the main hard with usage the range extender charging rate wouldn't be able to keep up? It is always a fight to make electric bikes feel natural when riding. Its even harder to do so when you’re trying to keep the system as lightweight as possible. But MAHLE really focused on improving ride feel, and they seemed to have pulled it off here. When attached to any Ribble e-bike the MAHLE range extender supplements the main battery, boosting the total battery capacity to a whopping 456Wh. This equates to an extra 70% of range, allowing you to extend your rides for longer and travel further in search of adventure. The extender works in two ways. Firstly, when connected to the e-bike system the first two amps of power are provided by the range extender. Meaning the main battery is discharged much more slowly. It also acts like a power bank and will actually charge the main battery when demand is at its lowest; while descending or above the 25km threshold when all assistance ceases. In this writeup - and video review - we’ll give an overview of the features, how it's changed over the MAHLE X35, and whether the changes amount to a better electric bike.

The Range Extender and main battery can be charged at the same time by connecting the Range Extender to the main battery and the charger to the Range Extender. So if there is anything going on in parallel, then I think there must be electronics managing this. Both batteries connecting to separate parts in the electronics and the electronics managing the current flow from both batteries to the motor.

EU Delivery

When attached to Gain, the external device charges the bike's main internal battery. The internal battery on the Gain offers 248Wh so the additional 208Wh from the X35 Range Extender brings the total battery capacity to 450Wh. Delivery timescales are esimates in working days; Public Holidays, Saturday's and Sunday's are NOT classed as working days. The new optional Battery or “Range Extender” from ebikemotion is one of the most interesting accessories of the X35 propulsion system. Its 208w complements the 252w of the main inner battery reaching 450w total capacity. These numbers can move the system during 4.5 hours with a medium consumption of 100wh that is currently the media consumption of the system. Range Extender modes

THe X35 Range Extender gives you another 208Wh (70%) offering nearly 2 hours of additional boost at maximum power assist — something unheard of in the industry. When attached to Gain, the Range Extender supplements the bike's main internal battery, which has a current capacity of 248W / h, and adds an additional 208W / h. This brings the total battery capacity to 450W / h, giving a 70% boost to the internal battery's charge. The new Range Extender from ebikemotion is one of the most interesting accessories for the X35 propulsion system. It's 208Wh capacity complements the 242Wh of the main inner battery for a 450Wh total capacity, extending the range up to 70% This latest MAHLE Smartbike system is lighter, smarter, and overall a much more user-friendly experience. The wildest part of it all? The system weighs in at just 7 pounds (3.2 kg), and that’s including the 250 W battery option in the downtube. As far as ride feel is concerned, MAHLE claims the X20 offers even more torque than X35, with a claimed peak of 55 Nm compared to 40 Nm from the X35. While this is lower than the biggest assist units from Shimano and Bosch, it is comparable to units from Fazua and others while being lighter.Price Matches may only be honored on identical items. The product must be the same make and model (i.e., the same size, color, year, etc.). From time to time carriers may deliver earlier or later, or on non working days however this is cannot be guaranteed nor should it be expected.

Enhance your ride and go farther with the new external charger for Gain. This new charger makes bigger challenges and longer adventures possible, providing nearly 2 hours of additional boost at maximum power assist — something unheard of in the industry. No, I haven't connected any range extender nor delimiter, the battery was faulty from factory (the most likely). There’s a wide range of specs for the carbon and alloy Gain, from Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 down to Claris and a few single ring options with Shimano GRX groupsets and 38mm tyres. Orbea Gain selected model specs and prices We’ve had great success with the MAHLE X35 drive unit. Not only is it one of the most common electric bike systems in lightweight road and gravel electric bikes, but it was so low-profile in it's look that the only way one might realize an X35 bike was electric was by lifting it up. The new MAHLE X20 system - shown here on a BMC Roadmachine AMP TWO - offers up plenty of improvements that make the bike a noticeable step forward. Just a technical note: Li-Po (Li-Ion) batteries don't need to be the same type, neither the same capacity and/or age, just the same chemistry, obviously, and both close in the voltage. I have enough experience in charging Li-Po batteries in parallel (RC helicopters, 4 batteries 5S (= 21V), 4500mAh, 70C (= capable > 300A) ). It is possible to connect them in parallel safely with the auxialiary pins with resistor first (to equal the total voltage), without any other electronics (there is no short circuit in such case and max. current surge is safely limited with the resistor). When connected batteries in parallel, capacity difference is not important, neither exact internal resistance of the cells (serial cells are balanced during last period of charging, parallel cells are equall in voltage by principle, Li-Po/Li-Ion RC batteries have a service connector with each cell connected separately). That may be the reason, why the range extender and main battery are charged separately (no cell voltage service connector is available outside).Enhance your ride and go farther with the new external charger for Gain. The X35 Range Extender makes bigger challenges and longer adventures possible, providing nearly 2 hours of additional boost at maximum power assist — something unheard of in the industry. The X35 Range Extender is compatible with Gain F, Gain M and Gain D models from 2018 and Gain and Vibe and Optima models from 2021. The X35 Range Extender is not compatible with the eMX24 model.

All applicable customs and import duties and any other charges are the responsibility of the customer. It simply mounts via the supplied bottle cage, neatly plugging in through the original charging port. The previous iWoc ONE controller was often hard to understand, with LED colors indicating a combination of battery life, connectivity, light options, and assist levels. While the LED colors still require some homework to understand their meaning (which we’ll get into), the big difference is the LED bar that shows battery life. Is there more of a white light showing? Then there’s more battery. And if your battery is low, then the light bar will be dim.

Speaking of assist, MAHLE motors are spec’d on Class 1 e-bikes with a 20 mph max pedal assist. You’ll feel the motor start to taper off its assist as you approach 20 mph to make the transition smooth. MAHLE Controller Updates MAHLE intends for the X20 electric drive system to be used in lightweight, high-performance gravel, road, and cross-country bikes. All of these bikes are designed not for range or power, but to be fun to ride, and a pleasant way to get around. Bikes with the MAHLE X20 drive system include the BMC Roadmachine AMP TWO, Orbea Gain, and SCOTT Addict eRIDE. According to MAHLE, a battery charge should offer a quoted 100 km (60 miles) and 1750 meters (5740 feet) of climbing ability with the smaller internal battery, and up to 200 km (130 miles) with the bigger battery and range extender . These numbers are somewhat optimistic in our experience. We’ve seen riders get anything from 40 to 100 miles of range with the X35; we expect a similar number here too. Bikes with MAHLE X20 Currently, BMC offers the Roadmachine AMP ONE with a MAHLE X20 drive system. It features a 350 Wh battery with the option for a range extender. SHOP BMC ROADMACHINE AMP MAHLE’s thinking is that a lower peak torque is necessary here, as these bikes often will have lower grip from narrower, road-oriented tires. The lower max assist also should be smoother, without the jerky feel of the most powerful systems.
