About this deal

It was my first perfume, which I was gifted as a child, and it brings fond memories of spritzing it in the places I lived.

I definitely pick up sweet ylang ylang in the opening and heliotrope and Tonka provide a nice almondy-vanilla spiciness. I don’t get anything really beachy from it, but it IS warm and the sun is warm so perhaps it’s aptly named. I only wish the sillage was a bit heavier but I guess I’ll make up for that with my winter fragrances. My parents did not particularly appreciate the strong scents that whiffed around the house and I must say this perfume has a hefty ingredients list of flavors in comparison to the majority of perfumes. I don't like cloying fruitchoulies like La Vie Est Belle, Lady Million or Black Opium at all, and the sweetness of this perfume is right at the limit of my sugar tolerance, so keep that in mind if that's not your cup of tea.The chalky, pasty several days sweating unwashed body odour, waaaaay too present on high temperature. Doesn't in its entirety remind me of any sunscreen or tanning oil I've had, but it might be because I was born in -94. Tingling, lively notes of bergamot, blackcurrants and rose wood, supported by a breeze of summer flowers such as jasmine, lily of the valley, orange blossoms and violets, have the effect of a summer morning. This is how you smell after taking a shower, all the sand from the beach has been washed away, your skin is sore and sunkissed, so you smear you self with a creamy skin lotion, and voila. This needs a few weeks/months in dark storage after first sprays to develop the true scent and performance.

Starts fruity and bubblegum like, takes a creamy and uniquely bizarre floral twist as it dries down, has a strange smokey (the tobacco leaf? Any items marked with an (*) have been gifted from a company, PR sample or paid for with a gift voucher. For me, being an early teen to this time, this was too much, even a bit on the vulgar side, but sure at least 'over the top'. Protect your fragrance from direct sunlight and heat, otherwise it could alter the composition of the fragrance and escape. or 10 minutes later, I get spicy playdoh from this, which reminded me quite a bit of Pi, which I adore. nettoyant is also spot on: "This perfume smells like dried salty ocean water, suntanned skin and suntanning cream".

Impossible to wear this under the Spanish sun in any time other than winter, or on some cool autumn days. The other notes listed merely support the coconut and orange blossom, invisibly rounding out the composition. To my nose, JS Sun opens with a kind of weird combination of smells, the sweet African orange blossom clashing with a creaminess (the benzoin? They have orris root in common but I doubt is that because it's like an animalic note that bothers me. I haven't smelled Sun in decades and just opened my sample I got gifted by a lovely Fragrantican and am walking on memory lane. The entire composition peaks with sweet vanilla and tonka beans, complemented by warm, woody accords.

Unlike other JS scents, this one really camouflages a lot of the notes so that I cannot so easily distinguish every individual note. Like a girl who just got ready in her bathroom back in the 90s, but it smells like lotion and shower cream (yeah, maybe that was Sun Lotion? I think I may subconsciously remember someone who put me at ease in my childhood wearing this, explaining that association, or maybe it’s just the scent itself.Jil creates classics - no big surprises - just beautiful sun warmed florals with just the right amount of sweet. I bought it for the first time few years ago, it was just too cheap to pass, and became addicted myself. Not sunscreen-like at all to me, and I grew up in the 90s in Europe going to beach vacations every summer with the smell of Nivea and Ambre Solaire around me. It was a delicate sensory stimulus that would break the quietness along with crows cawing above the old church I used to pass by on my way.
