Jealousy hides behind a thirst for justice, drives you crazy, poisons your life and changes it for the better only if you can literally and figuratively remove your opponent. and for his version of Macbeth (the perfect match), no one should be surprised that I immediately grabbed his newest book, Jealousy Man, which is a collection of short stories, and devoured it immediately.

I always enjoy the author's writing, and I like knowing some of the characters in the stories will not meet a happy end. Meet a detective on the trail of a man suspected of murdering his twin; a hired assassin facing his greatest adversary; and two passengers meeting by chance on a plane, spelling romance or something far more sinister. I would like to thank both Net Galley and Knopf for supplying a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.Por último, El pendiente, no me resultó tan predecible como los otros, similar a los relatos mencionados lo más interesante tenía que ver con la narración del protagonista y el cómo hiló sus pensamientos para llegar a un desenlace que no se veía venir tan claro. This was my first Jo Nesbø book and I enjoyed most of his stories and his dark humour and plot twists. For me, though, this collection was akin to unwrapping a protein bar… only to find out that two-thirds of it had gone bad.

The ease with which things transition is a credit to Nesbø’s writing and I cannot say enough about what he has to offer. There is Nils, the oldest, who couldn't escape his suffocating home soon enough, and Pierre, the youngest, easily bullied and quick to lash out.I suspect many readers will be surprised if they pick this book up judging Nesbo purely by his Hole books and are expecting "straight" thriller writing. Of course, the problem could be solved if anyone crying in the business section was made to sit in the economy section and had to give up their seat to a smiling, easy-going person with a cheap ticket.

While jealousy and love appear to be key aspects to some of the earlier pieces, few stories take things in a straightforward manner, choosing instead to tackle the subject matter in a subtle or symbolic manner. Each of them needed slow and careful reading to unpack and appreciate all the nuance contained within. Filled with dark thrills, twisted minds and vengeful hearts, these twelve page-turning short stories from 'the king of Scandicrime' (FT) and creator of the iconic detective Harry Hole, will have you reading late into the night. However, I found many of the stories repetitive because they are mostly about men being obsessed with women. Here are my favourite stories from the book – The Jealousy Man where a detective investigates a missing person case and stumbles into a complicated relationship between two brothers that reminds him of his past. The Trail of Discovery means the author leads the reader through a consistent set of rules and parameters for the unfolding of events.

Indeed, the novel does double duty as a survival manual, packed full of good advice—for instance, try not to get wounded, for “injury turns you from a giver to a taker. The Fasten your seat belt light went off and a stewardess came up, refreshed the empty glasses that stood on the broad, solid armrest between us. You–who until now had been staring fixedly out of the window–turned slowly and looked at me–as though you had only now discovered someone was sitting in the seat next to yours. The subjects are sometimes bleak as heck, but lit through with beautiful, unexpected poetic reflections and even humor. After three years military service he attended business school and formed the band Di derre (‘Them There’).Cigarras fue mi favorito entre todos, este era más cifi que otra cosa, mezclaba la idea de mundos paralelos, celos y un poder relacionado más a la inteligencia. Normally I don’t like the format, but all of these-of various lenghts-were engaging and interesting, as much for the philosophical meditations as for the plots. After all, you had just said you wanted to die, and had even given me a credible reason for saying it. My absolute favorites were London, The Jealousy Man and The Line, which incidentally were all in Part One.
